Thoughts on T.O., from an Eagles fan

After being released from the Cowboys, NFL diva Terrell Owens heads north to the Buffalo Bills. But the move raises one obvious question: Will T.O. be good for the Bills, or will he only cause more trouble?

When Owens was in Philadelphia, there were rumors that Star QB Donovan McNabb and Hot Shot Receiver T.O. clashed on and off the field. Having to choose between the veteran QB and the Diva, the Eagles chose McNabb.

The rumors coming out of Dallas are only slightly different. T.O. and Cowboys QB Tony Romo were said to be close, playful friends both on and off the field. However, some were speculating that two star receivers on one team didn’t work. This is where trading T.O. came into play. But the team found no suitors.

After being released by the Cowboys, the fate of T.O. was up in the air. It seemed every day, another team was denying interest in Owens. That is, until the Bills took quick action and picked up the wide receiver.

Having gone 7-9 last year, Buffalo needs something to spark team energy. T.O. will have to work with Bills QB Trent Edwards. Edwards has 395 career completions, and now has a bigger, better target to complement Lee Evans.

There is one thing that cannot be denied–he can catch and run like no other receiver. It can be debated that T.O. is one of the greatest receivers in the NFL. The question is, can he keep his ego in check?

As an Eagles fan, I say-Good Luck, Bills! T.O. will be a handful!

Terrell Owens to Bills

Drew Rosenhaus was right after all. Terrell Owens inked a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills Saturday, NFL.com has reported.

The one year deal is definitely a good move for Buffao. Owens should provide a great target opposite Lee Evans for QB Trent Edwards.

Owens was said to be visiting the team Saturday, so it must have been love at first sight. The team has scheduled a press conference for 6:15 p.m. EST.

Update: Per The Buffalo News, the deal is worth $6.5 million guaranteed.

Free Agency Quick Hits – March 7

The Chargers have reportedly made one final offer to restructure LaDanian Tomlinson’s contract, per The San Diego Union Tribune.

Matt Maiocco of The Press Democrat is shooting down the reports that OT Khalif Barnes (Jaguars) is close to signing with the Raiders. Maiocco says Barnes agent Kenny Zuckerman told him that Barnes will sign with one of two other teams, and not the 49ers or Raiders.

Rotoworld has learned from the Chicago Tribune that RB Kevin Jones has agreed on a two-year, $3.5 million deal to stay with the Bears.

The Eagles signed ex-Browns safety Sean Jones to an undisclosed contract.

Add the Bears to the list of teams that are NOT interested in T.O. Just say No. Profootballtalk has a nifty page they created called the “Anti-T.O. List.”

Cornerback Bryant McFadden hopes to make a decision soon, per PFT. There are reportedly four teams in the running: the Steelers, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Eagles.

The Dallas Cowboys signed DE Igor Olshansky to a four-year, $18 million contract, NFL.com has reported.

[Editor's Note: PFT has a great Seinfeld video clip with this story - the Ukraine is weak - from the Label Maker episode. I chose not to post it since they had it first, because, you know, I prefer to do my own material.]

The Browns have signed former Jets DE C.J. Mosley, PFT has reported.

The Cleveland Browns announced the signing of former Jets defensive end C.J. Mosley on Friday.

PFT has reported that the Bills may be interested in the services of Terrell Owens.

Bucs, Raiders say no to T.O.

Just say no. That’s what the D.A.R.E program taught me back in middle school. And that’s what the Bucs and Raiders have said– as well as more than a dozen other teams– to the possibility of adding free-agent receiver Terrell Owens to their rosters.

The Bucaneers and Raiders join the Titans, Vikings, 49ers, Giants, Dolphins, Redskins, Ravens, Falcons, Browns, Chargers, Eagles, Jets, Rams, Saints, Texans and Jags as teams who’ve denied interest in Owens.

And all this after the wideout’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said “several teams” were interested in TO and that a deal should be expected within the next week.

Free Agency Quick Hits – March 6

Terrell Owen’s agent Drew Rosenhaus is expecting the veteran wideout to have a deal in place with a team by the end of next week - if not sooner, Profootballtalk has learned.

The Raiders have restructered three players contracts in the last two days, first with WR Javon Walker, and now RB Justin Fargas and OT Robert Gallery have reworked their deals.

ContraCostaTimes also reported the Raiders are interested in bringing in free-agent QB Kyle Boller. Boller has reportedly visited with the team.

The Denver Broncos are scheduled to meet with DB Travis Daniels next Monday, Rotoworld has reported.

The Patriots have agreed to terms with CB Shawn Springs (Redskins), according to NFL.com.

Per the Tampa Tribune, the Buccaneers have re-signed SS Jermaine Phillips and TE Jerramy Stevens.

The Patriots have completed a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles – swapping a fifth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft for WR Greg Lewis and the Eagles seventh-round pick in 2010.

Update: KFFL has learned that the Raiders are expected to sign OT Khalif Barnes (Jaguars) to a reported multi-year deal.

Cowboys Release Owens

ESPN is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Terrell Owens.  The move again comes as little surprise, given Owens’ penchant for constantly whining about not getting the ball and jealousy over others.

In our view, possible suitors for Owens include the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and of course, the Oakland Raiders.  The New York Jets may also be a darkhorse candidate.

Washington is always looking to get splashy free agents in and have them flop (see Deion Sanders, Jason Taylor).  They also seem to have swung and missed in a big way with last year’s draft picks Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly at wide receiver.

The Bucs are in desperate need of a number 1 receiver.  Michael Clayton was/is a flop, Joey Galloway is about 100-years old and Antonio Bryant needs to prove he can be reliable for more than one season.

The Raiders are still looking for a dependable receiver to team up with young quarterback Jamarcus Russell.  Ronald Curry is gone and the only worthwhile receiver on the roster is the diminutive Johnny Lee Higgins. Javon Walker and Ashley Lelie are worthless.

The Jets have released Laverneus Coles and could look for a legitimate #1 guy to put opposite Jerricho Cotchery or Brad Smith.  Jets GM Mike Tannebaum also is known for bringing in high profile free agents and New York may be the only place that’s “bigger” than Owens.

Keep checking back for updates.

By the way, I apologize about the apparant disappearance of NFL Draft content on the site.  Life got in the way (specifically Aunt Sallie Mae)–I promise I’ll start back soon. (Hey, if you keep reading the site, maybe we can make money off of this, then I can quit my jobs!)

Update: The Cowboys have also released SS Roy Williams, per Rotoworld.
